What is Telnet?
Telnet is a basic tool for connecting to Internet computers to perform
remote computing. To work on UNIX machines such as "sils.umich.edu" and
other hosts, you use your machine's Telnet software to connect and log
into that particular host.
Most other services on the Internet are based on a Telnet type connection,
by connecting to alternate "ports" on an Internet host.
